Massage Therapy

Throughout history, "hands on" healing techniques have played an important role in the health practices of major societies. It is said to be the most natural and instinctive means of relieving pain and discomfort. In modern times, Massage Therapy has become widely recognized as an effective means of reducing the incidence of stress related disorders, as well as relieving soft-tissue pain and dysfunction. Massage Therapy has earned its place as an important and respected part of the healthcare industry.

Our massage therapists offer the following forms of massage under the supervision of our medical staff.

Medical Massage

Medical Massage works in a very different way than "traditional" massage therapy, which is usually known by the name "Swedish Massage." Medical Massage is a physician-prescribed therapy for diagnosed conditions. The majority of pain complaints are from the neck and back region. Techniques are neuromuscular (myofascial release, trigger points, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, etc.) and can help relieve pain.

At South Orange Wellness & Injury Center, we offer Medical Massage in 25 and 55 minute sessions. Call (407) 857-6166 to schedule an appointment or, for questions, email the Massage Therapist: maria@southorangewellness.com.

Swedish Massage

This classic form of massage incorporates basic relaxation techniques to help increase blood flow to tired, overstressed muscles. Swedish Massage is the most commonly recognized form of massage and consists primarily of long, gliding strokes that induce a state of relaxation.

At South Orange Wellness & Injury Center, we offer Swedish Massage in 25, 55, and 85 minute sessions. Call (407) 857-6166 to schedule an appointment or, for questions, email the Massage Therapist: maria@southorangewellness.com.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is directed toward the deeper layers of muscle and fascia, as compared to Swedish Massage which is more superficial. There are many types of Deep Tissue Massage. What they all have in common is that they break up adhesions and fascial restrictions, thus decreasing pain and increasing range of motion and ease of movement. Using deep muscle compression and friction along the length of the muscle, Deep Tissue Massage’s purpose is to break up the fibrous adhesions of muscles and release both toxins and deeply held patterns of tension.

At South Orange Wellness & Injury Center, we offer Deep Tissue Massage in 25 and 55 minute sessions. Call (407) 857-6166 to schedule an appointment or, for questions, email the Massage Therapist: maria@southorangewellness.com.

Reflexology

Reflexology is the art and science of stimulating the body’s own healing forces by locating and stimulating certain points on the body that affect organs or functions in other parts of the body. It is usually thought of as work done on the feet, although there are reflex points on the hands and cranium, as well as throughout the entire body.

Reflexology is a form of compression massage and is based on the principles that reflex points are related to every organ in the body. By applying pressure to a reflex point, or zone, the practitioner can affect certain beneficial changes. Various parts of the hands and feet are linked to specific glands, organs, and muscles. Activating these links, or reflex points, with massage can relieve tension, improve blood supply to certain regions of the body, and help to normalize bodily functions. For example, when reflex massage is administered to the big toe, it is claimed to relieve headaches and head tension. When the reflex points for the colon (in the foot) are stimulated, constipation can be relieved.

Reflex points on the hands and feet have been mapped out based on the ancient, Oriental theory that meridian lines or pathways carry energy throughout the body. This has helped to systematize this healing method. It is a method of bodywork that can be used when other forms of care are contraindicated for medical reasons.

At South Orange Wellness & Injury Center, we offer Reflexology in 25 and 55 minute sessions. Call (407) 857-6166 to schedule an appointment or, for questions, email the Massage Therapist: maria@southorangewellness.com.

Thai Yoga

Lymphatic Drainage

The proper function of the lymphatic system is critical to our body’s ability to detoxify, regenerate tissues, and maintain a healthy immune system. Lymphatic Drainage is designed to activate and cleanse the lymphatic system, detoxify the body, reduce edema, stimulate immune function, as well as many other benefits. The therapist uses subtle, rhythmic, wave-like movements to enhance lymphatic flow.

Pre-Natal Massage

Pregnancy places strong demands on a woman’s body and is a time for the body to be nurtured. Pre-Natal Massage relieves the tension and aches caused by the extra weight and shift in the body’s center of gravity. It also reduces swelling, soothes the nervous system, acts as a tonic, reduces fatigue, and enhances energy. Pre-Natal Massage is recommended after the first trimester.
(*Best results are achieved when combined with 30 minutes of Lymphatic Drainage.)
